Colour correction

This is a screenshot of the process of colour correction for part of our video. We wanted to colour correct to ensure that the quality of our video was better, and the audience could see clearer footage of the video.
We made sure that we made the colours brighter so that they stood out in parts of the video. This is a typical editing convention for all music videos, and we found that in music video of this particular genre, there is a use of bright colours and the video really stands out.

Projector Scenes For Music Video

This is a clip of the projector scenes created from videos that were taken from members of our group put into one slide and played to the music we are going to use in our music video.
We are going to have the artist of the music video stand in front of the projector, run this clip of scenes over her and have her lip sync to the song whilst dancing to the music.
We are hoping for an authentic looking projector scene in order to make it look just like a professional one often seen in pop music videos (genre of our music video). This way we will be able to meet the needs of our target audience and fit into the genre we are aiming for better by including typical conventions such as these.

Our Schedule

Change of Location

We decided to change the one of the locations for our music video as we felt that this bridge was better for the following reasons:

  • Better lighting both in the day and night
  • Less busy than the other bridge
  • Smaller so the focus could be more on the main artist of the show and the actual story line in the beginning.
  • More subtle so the artist could stand out more in shots and not be out shined by the location.
  • More attractive so it could be aesthetically pleasing to our audience.
  • Stairs are easier to work with as they are smaller and require less close ups for the camera to focus on the artist.
  • Indoor lights so possible to shoot at night without any difficulty.
  • Easier to link to the narrative of the video.
  • Less travelling to shoot other scenes of the video.

StoryBoard

Storyboard from shaniceA

(LEFT TO RIGHT)
We wanted to increase our creativity skills so we decided to use whiteboards to draw out our planned storyboard.

Run Through (opening shots)

Whilst we were at possible locations, we decided to do a run through of possible opening shots for the start of our music video. We used a range of camera techniques and editing techniques and also put the song of our choice behind the video to make it look as if we were really starting it.
We made sure that we planned out what we were going to do in the locations we were thinking of, filmed some footage of the places and ourselves doing some of the actions we had planned out, and put it all together in editing.
This will help us with editing and filming the actual footage and help us see what sort of things we can do to improve.

Mock up of Music Video

Mock Up from Shane-Deon on Vimeo.

This is a mock up of our music video using the song that we will use and a combination of clips from existing pop music videos in an order that shows the narrative of our music video
to demonstrate what we will be creating.  The use of already existing clips will help us gain inspiration for our own video. These will include editing technique ideas, camera angle ideas, and it will give us more location ideas.

Possible Location

Possible Location

For possible locations we came up with the idea of using a bridge and stairs in our video. So we decided to think of places that were visually appealing and would make our video look better. We decided to visit Wimbledon and use a big bridge and wide stairs that could do exactly that.
The scene would work well with the genre of the song, and with the movements of the star, this would also make our video more modern and appeal to our young target audience.

Lip Syncing

I decided to use a video of someone lip syncing to a song in order to see how to get the timing right.

I came to the conclusion that if a person is lip syncing with the music in the background whilst filming, the accuracy of timing is a lot better and therefore when the song is played over the footage, we can mute the video and the lip syncing will be a lot more accurate compared to if they were just lip syncing with no music and having to make sure that the song played over is in time with the footage.
